LUNAR THORN Selenia lunularia
Local in suitable habitat.
Rosie described it as being uncommon in Region 4. There are two records from the Reay Rothamsted site in 1992 and 1993
Scottish Status: Common - stable. UK Status: Local
Significant decline in distribution in central and eastern England since 1970 (cf: Atlas of Britain & Ireland's Larger Moths)  
Lower photograph shows deeply scalloped underwing which helps to distinguish this species from Purple Thorn
First and last flight dates recorded in Caithness: 19th May to 27th June
